I had such a wonderful time photographing this incredible family earlier this week at Scusset Beach in Sandwich, Massachusetts. After one reschedule due to a calendar conflict and another thanks to classic New England weather, everything finally aligned—and the evening could not have been more perfect.

We arrived a bit early while the sun was still high, so we filled the time the best way possible: playing Red Light, Green Light right on the beach. One of these kids (and yes, I know exactly which one 😄) may have told me to “hurry up” because I was taking too long for her liking. Honestly, that’s one of my favorite parts of photographing families—kids are unapologetically themselves, and a little sass always makes the session more fun.

As the sun began to set, the sky shifted into the most beautiful pink and purple ombré glow, washing the beach in soft color and creating the most beautiful light. This is exactly what we were waiting for—calm, airy tones that feel effortless and timeless, and a perfect match for the relaxed energy of this family.

One thing I always make space for during family sessions is pulling Mom and Dad aside for a few quiet moments together. This is where the story of every family begins. It’s important to honor that—to celebrate not just the love they have for their children, but the love they have for each other. Those images often become the ones parents treasure just as much as the full family portraits.

This Scusset Beach family session was full of connection, laughter, and genuine moments—and it’s a perfect example of why Cape Cod beaches make such beautiful backdrops for family photography.
