Audrey's Senior Photos | Massachusetts Senior Photographer

Every once in a while, I have a session that legitimately reminds me just how much I freaking love photography.

Audrey's session was undoubtedly one of those nights.

I've been photographing seniors and families for nine years now, and many of my clients know that photography isn't my only career. I have another career that I absolutely love and have been in for 20 years, so every now and then I find myself wondering what photography will look like for me in the years ahead.

And then I have a night like this one...

When I got back in the car after Audrey's senior session, I told my husband, "You know how every now and then I wonder what I'll do next year with photography?"

He looked at me and said, "I never doubted it. I know how much you love it."

He's right. 🤍

A Senior Session That Felt Completely Like Her

Audrey, a Mansfield senior, wearing a white dress and cowboy boots beside a weathered barn for her Massachusetts senior photos.

From the very beginning, Audrey and her mom knew they wanted something a little different for her senior photos. Rather than choosing one of the more traditional senior portrait locations, her mom did some serious scouting and found this incredible spot.

It could not have been more perfect.

An old weathered barn, open fields, overgrown paths, wildflowers and the most beautiful late-summer light gave us so much variety without ever leaving the property.

And then there were Audrey's outfits.

She took every bit of advice from our session planning call to heart and brought looks that worked beautifully with the location. The long white dress with cowboy boots against the old barn might forever be one of my favorite senior portrait combinations, while her shorter green dress and boots gave us a completely different look as the light changed later in the evening.

This is exactly why I spend time planning with my seniors before their sessions. A subject’s style choices will always have a greater impact on the feel of an image—far more than the location ever will. But when you combine great looks, a picture-perfect location, and beautiful light? It simply couldn’t be better.

You Don't Have to Know How to Pose for Senior Pictures

Audrey happened to be incredibly natural in front of my camera from almost the moment we started. She was comfortable, expressive and willing to try absolutely anything I suggested.

But that's never something I expect my seniors to know how to do before they arrive.

One of my favorite parts of photographing seniors is figuring out what works for each person as we go. I'll direct you, move you, tell you what to do with your hands and probably say "beautiful" approximately 700 times when you get it right.

With Audrey, everything just clicked.

We laughed. We wandered through fields. We dodged poison ivy. And we discovered that Audrey and I may not share the same level of tolerance for the daddy longlegs living near the barn.

I'll give her a pass on that one.

One of Those Nights I'll Remember

This was actually the second time Audrey's mom trusted me to photograph someone in their family this year, which made this session even more special.

There is something incredibly meaningful about a client choosing you once. Having them come back and trust you all over again is something I never take for granted.

Audrey, you were an absolute delight to photograph. Thank you for trusting all of my ideas, for being willing to climb through questionable vegetation in beautiful clothes, and for making this session SO.MUCH.FUN!

I hope you have the absolute BEST senior year.

And to Audrey and mom: thank you for giving me one of those nights that reminded me, nine years later, exactly why I love this job as much as I do.
