Family Photos at Adams Farm | Walpole, MA Family Session

I had such a wonderful afternoon with this Cumberland, Rhode Island family during their family photo session at Adams Farm in Walpole, Massachusetts.

As a mom myself, I know exactly what it takes to get everyone out the door for family photos—especially when young kids are involved. Sometimes one little family member just isn’t feeling it that day. And you know what? That is perfectly okay.

This session was full of those real, joyful moments. From discovering a random cart (which instantly became the best seat in the house) to climbing fences and playing peekaboo, every moment was driven by curiosity and fun. Just look at this little peanut now—happy, confident, and completely herself. And, FYI - I love this photo as much as I love them one of her crying above!

I’m not chasing the perfectly posed Christmas card photo. Is it nice to have? Sure. But I’m never going to force a moment. I’ll gently guide kids when they’re open to it, but if they need space to explore, run, or do their own thing—I’m always going to let them lead. That’s where the most beautiful, natural images of them are created.

When kids are given the freedom to laugh, move, and genuinely have fun, those are the images that truly capture who they are right now. And that’s why family photos matter—to preserve this stage of life, not just a perfectly posed version of it.

And here’s the secret: once kids feel free to be kids, that Christmas card photo happens naturally. But I’d also be willing to bet, that the perfectly posed shot you thought was the one won’t even make the Christmas card 😉

I truly mean it when I say this, moms—the hardest part is simply showing up. If you can do that, I promise you I’ll take care of the rest.
